Home Depot Penny Item Finder: What Tools Can and Cannot Tell You
Updated October 20, 2026
Why no finder can list penny items reliably
A penny price is the last step of clearance, when Home Depot's system marks an item to be pulled from the shelf. It is not a price Home Depot publishes, so it does not appear in the inventory data that stock checkers read.
Penny lists you find online are usually built from shoppers' receipts and reports. They are useful leads, but a penny at one store says little about the store near you, and stores may decline to sell penny items at the register.
What our own checks show
Across more than 8,000 stores we were tracking in early October 2026, we found zero items in confirmed stock at five cents or less. In the same check, about 1,800 stores had something under $1 and more than 4,000 had something at 75% off or better.
Spotted does not list penny items. It shows the deep clearance that comes right before them, with confirmed stock.
A better way to use your time
Items that reach 75% off or more are the stage just before an item is pulled. Watching those at the stores near you is how you find the deep deals that are actually buyable, and occasionally the last unit of something that goes lower.
If penny hunting is all you want, a penny-focused tool will suit you better than Spotted. We compare them in our clearance finder roundup.
