A popular clearance tip says the last digit of a Home Depot price tells you where an item is in its markdown cycle, with .06 and .03 meaning a final markdown. We checked that against the actual discount on every in-stock clearance item we track.
The last cent does not track the discount in a useful way. The reliable signal is the original price on the tag: compare it to the clearance price to see how deep the markdown really is.
